Terms and Conditions

Terms and Conditions for Access and
Stay within the Event Grounds

Visitors

Access to the event grounds is available through 9 designated entry gates, clearly marked and distributed throughout the area. Entry is permitted for all adults and children aged 5 years and older, upon presentation of a valid daily ticket or wristband to event staff. We recommend that all visitors aged 10 years or under wear the “Safe Child” wristband, available free of charge at all entry gates.

The access wristband is personal and non-transferable, and cannot be refunded or exchanged. In the event of loss or damage, access to the Medieval Journey grounds will not be granted.

If using a wristband, it must be properly secured to the wrist so it cannot be easily removed. Visitors must allow staff at the gates to check and adjust the wristband if necessary.

In specific cases — such as verified professional or medical circumstances — the wristband may be replaced with a card identifying the bearer, available at a location indicated by the event organization.

The access card must be presented, properly filled out, along with a valid photo ID, at the entrance to the event grounds.

The daily ticket is only valid for the specific date indicated and cannot be refunded. If unused or unvalidated, the ticket may be used on another day of equal or lower value. Once a ticket holder exits the event grounds, all entry rights are forfeited, and re-entry is not permitted.

By entering the event grounds, the holder of a ticket or wristband acknowledges and accepts that their image may be captured or recorded during the event. The attendee grants full and free rights to the Event Organization for any use of such images.

It is strictly forbidden to bring into the event grounds any food or beverages, substances, or objects that may be deemed dangerous by the Event Organization, or that may incite or enable violent behavior, or that are prohibited by law. This includes, but is not limited to: cans, selfie sticks, firearms, fireworks, explosive devices, or any pyrotechnic materials or similar items.

Upon entry to the event grounds, visitors may be subject to security checks and removal of unauthorized items.

Access to and stay within the Medieval Journey grounds will be denied to anyone displaying violent, aggressive, or disruptive behavior, showing signs of intoxication or drug use, or refusing to surrender prohibited or unauthorized objects.

Visitors must use only the designated restroom facilities provided within the event grounds. It is strictly forbidden to relieve oneself in any other location.

Visitors are expected to interact with event organizers, participants, public authorities, and fellow attendees with courtesy, moderation, and respect at all times.

It is strictly forbidden to display banners, flags, symbols, or any signs containing racist, xenophobic, political, or violent messages.

Visitors must not throw any objects within the grounds or cause damage to any fixed or movable structures belonging to the event, its organizers, participants, or local residents.

Access to restricted areas not intended for the public is strictly prohibited.

Visitors must respect the boundaries of spaces reserved for performances promoted by the organizers, as well as any specific access rules that apply to them.

Visitors must respect all queues and wait their turn in areas such as food courts, market stalls, ticket offices, performance venues, and any other locations open to the public.

During parades or moving performances, visitors must keep a safe distance to allow their passage without endangering performers or other spectators.

Litter and waste must be disposed of only in the appropriate bins and containers provided throughout the event grounds.

Open fires are strictly prohibited.

Any ticket or wristband holder whose actions are found to be in violation of these rules may be denied entry or removed from the event grounds. In such cases, the ticket will be cancelled or the wristband confiscated, without refund. The Event Organization reserve the right to take further legal action, which may include civil, criminal, or administrative liability, depending on the nature of the infraction.

The Event Organization reserves the right to change or modify the event program at any time.

The Event Organization also reserves the right to update, amend, or supplement these rules at any time, without prior notice. Therefore, ticket or wristband holders are responsible for regularly reviewing the official event website www.viagemmedieval.com where the most current version of the Terms and Conditions will always be available. No claim of ignorance regarding any changes or additions will be accepted.

By purchasing a ticket or receiving a wristband, the holder expressly declares that they have read, understood, and fully accepted these Terms and Conditions, and that they are fully aware of the rights and obligations therein.

Any situations not covered by these Terms and Conditions will be governed by applicable Portuguese law.

Residents

Wristbands

The Event Organization provides free wristbands for residents within the boundaries of the Viagem Medieval, in a ratio of 1 resident – 3 wristbands, to ensure their access to the event. The maximum number of wristbands allocated per household will depend on the type of residence.

To receive wristbands, each resident must present proof of address, complete, and sign a form provided by the Event Organization.

Parking

During the event, residents living in areas with temporary traffic suspension will, when possible, have access to free parking spaces in the Event Organization’s parking lots. The allocation of spaces will be done based on the specific needs and historical context of the situation.

The Event Organization’s goal is to ensure that each resident is provided with 1 free parking space.

To receive parking permits, each resident must complete and sign a form provided by the Event Organization, attaching a copy of the vehicle registration document for their car(s).

The number of parking permits for residents with a private garage will correspond to the number of garage spaces. Residents who park on the street will be entitled to one permit per vehicle, granting access to one of the Medieval Journey parking lots.

In order to maintain public and participant safety, the Event Organization requests residents’ understanding and cooperation to limit garage access and circulation within the event area to what is strictly necessary.

Residents accessing a garage must present a valid ID and proof of address for security staff and/or Event Organization verification.

Access to garages located within specific areas of the event may be restricted — including temporarily — to ensure public safety and compliance with the event’s scheduled activities.

Access procedure for residents – Mandatory access gate

Residents with a garage access permit must use the nearest access gate based on their residential street. The designated gates are as follows:

  • Rua dos Descobrimentos – P 5 (Casa Cáster)
  • Rua António Castro Corte Real – P 6 (Orfeão)
  • Rua Santos Carneiro – P 1 (Main Church)
  • Rua Dr. Elísio de Castro – P 3 (Misericórdia)
  • Rua Dr. Roberto Alves – P 1 (Main Church)
  • Alameda Dr. Roberto Vaz Oliveira – P 9 (Castle)
  • Rua Jornal Correio da Feira – P 4 (Caixa Geral Depósitos)
  • Rua do Carvalhal – P 7 (old Etar)

Local Businesses (shops and services)

Wristbands

The Event Organization provides free access wristbands to regular staff members of permanent businesses (shops and services) operating within the Medieval Journey perimeter. These wristbands are issued upon presentation of an official employee list (e.g., Social Security or insured employee records).

To receive wristbands, businesses must also present proof of address and complete a registration form provided by the Organization.

Parking

During the Event, businesses located on streets where traffic is temporarily suspended may be granted free parking access in the Organization’s designated car parks, whenever possible. Parking spaces are allocated based on specific needs and past participation.

The Organization’s goal is to guarantee one free parking space per business.

To request a parking permit, each permanent business must complete and sign a form provided by the Organization and attach a copy of the vehicle registration document(s).

Loading and unloading

During the days of the Medieval Journey, loading and unloading is only allowed before 11h00, outside of event hours.

Business Clients

During event hours, entry into the Medieval Journey area is only permitted with a valid ticket, wristband, or access card for everyone aged six and above.

The following exceptions may apply, provided they are properly coordinated with the Event’s security authorities:

  • Overnight stays in accommodation establishments located within the perimeter (access is permitted upon presentation of a booking confirmation)
  • Participation in religious or funeral ceremonies (provided that entry takes place up to 30 minutes before the ceremony)
  • Access to public services ( provided that the need for access is unequivocally demonstrated)
  • Maintenance and/or emergency operations

Restrictions

For safety reasons, the installation or permanence of outdoor seating areas (esplanades) in the historic zone (R. Dr. Elísio de Castro / R. Dr. Roberto Alves / R. das Fogaceiras / Pr. Gaspar Moreira / Pr. da República / Rua do Rossio) will be either restricted or prohibited during the Event period. However, the installation of a sales counter facing the street from within the establishment will be permitted. Requests will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

Animals

All dogs and cats present in public areas must wear a collar or harness that includes the owner’s name and address or phone number, as required by Portuguese law (Decree-Law 314/03). It is forbidden for dogs to be in public spaces without being accompanied by their owner and without wearing a functional muzzle. In the case of dangerous or potentially dangerous dogs, in addition to the muzzle, the animals must also be restrained using the containment measures required by specific legislation.

Horses are not allowed within the Event area, except for those explicitly authorized by the Event Organization, such as those participating in performances or thematic areas.

Vehicles

Access and circulation of motor vehicles within the Event area is only permitted in the following cases:

Emergency and/or Priority Vehicles – In emergency situations, entry is allowed through any access gate, provided prior communication is made to gate controllers so that the gate can be opened.

Municipal Vehicles – Access is granted to properly identified municipal vehicles, upon validation by the Command Center (via radio).

Non-motorized Vehicles (bicycles, scooters, skateboards, etc.) – Access with this type of vehicle is subject to control at the gate. Once entry is authorized, the user must walk the vehicle by hand through the Event area.

Vehicles belonging to Event participants and commercial establishments located within the perimeter of the Medieval Journey are not permitted to enter the Event area after 11h00 (11:00 AM), and all loading and unloading must be completed before this time.

Vehicles belonging to official Event suppliers are also not allowed access after 11h00, and their loading and unloading operations must be carried out strictly before this hour.

After this time, and only in exceptional cases with proven need, the Organization provides a restricted-use area near the Municipal Swimming Pool (HMC Sports – Piscinas Municipais) for limited access.

Funeral service vehicles are permitted to enter the Event area when duly justified.
